So, I have a question for you… Do you know what a personal brand is? Like, really truly know what a personal brand is?
A personal brand, put simply (and in rather ‘corporate’ speak) is the marketing of a person and their profession as a brand. 👯♀️
I was having a conversation with someone recently and it came to light that they thought that only someone like a blogger or influencer, or someone who only shared every detail their personal life on social media, had a personal brand. And I’m here to tell you, you don’t have to show ANY of your personal life in order to have a personal brand.
Sure, feel free to show us what you’re eating, I don’t mind seeing pics of your cute kids and I love knowing more about people in general, we’re a nosey bunch and I am sure most people love a glimpse into the lives of others. In most cases a glimpse is just enough, we just want another reason to connect with you, another reason to fall in love with you.
But ultimately, your core message should still be about how you can help your ideal client, you just do it in a way that aligns with you and your vision, you use your message, your tone of voice, your image and your brand to attract your ideal client.
Start by figuring out:
✨What do you want to be known for?
✨Why do you do what you do?
✨How can you help your ideal client?
✨Why do they need your help?
Professionally, some great ways to build your personal brand are to simply just to show up as yourself, write like you would speak, use humour if it’s natural to you, jump on camera and chat with your audience and collaborate with others. And if you’re looking to get a little more personal, share a funny story, tell us a joke, show us a pic of the best taco’s you’ve ever had BUT just make sure you’re adding so much value that your fellow taco loving ideal client would never consider working with anyone else.
